Cybercriminals launch DDoS attacks for many reasons. Some seek financial gain by demanding ransom payments in exchange for stopping the attack. In some cases, DDoS attacks serve as distractions while attackers simultaneously attempt to breach internal systems or steal sensitive information. Defending against DDoS attacks requires careful planning and layered security. Organizations should partner with internet service providers and cloud-based DDoS mitigation services capable of filtering malicious traffic before it reaches business servers. Load balancing, redundant infrastructure, content delivery networks (CDNs), traffic monitoring, and automated detection systems all help maintain service availability during attacks. Regular incident response exercises ensure that technical teams can quickly recognize and respond to unusual traffic patterns before outages become severe.

A website that cannot be accessed is often just as damaging as one that has been hacked.
